To top off the raft of new features and functions within the Windows Azure offering Microsoft have announced some beneficial new commercial amends too.
As part of the commitment to match or better the commercial side of rivals Amazon, Windows Azure now offers (starting 3rd June) Per-minute billing for Virtual Machines, Web & Worker Roles, SQL Server & BizTalk server. Billing is rounded up to the minute for usage (rather than the hour) providing true cloud economics – paying for just what you use.
Not only that, Stopped VMs are no longer charged – making development and test environments much more cost effective, spinning them up only for the hours they’re needed but without having to re-deploy.
All in all, Azure is looking set for a great kickstart to Microsoft’s new fiscal year (FY14) starting in July and our customers can gain even more flexibility and scalability with ever improving commercial arguments for moving to the Cloud.
